At the foot of the Oakland hills, east of Telegraph Avenue and north of 51st Street, Rockridge blends classic American with Old World charm. 

Rockridge is what many consider the ideal Oakland neighborhood. With its "let's get outside" atmosphere, this neighborhood has an exemplary public transportation system combined with a very pedestrian-friendly layout, making commuting easy and local exploration fun and relaxing. BART and bus lines vein through the community and several freeways feed you to the Caldecott Tunnel, Bay Bridge, East I-580 and South I-880.

Living here, you are definitely in the mix and close to it all. Rockridge is known for it's fine dining and eclectic restaurants scene, boutiques, and pubs. If you walk down College Avenue in the evening you will be greeted with the glow of the thriving restaurants, the chatter of friends gathering and the gentle hum of BART.

403 63rd Street – Sellers' Letter

This home will forever be a sweet and treasured memory for our family.  We bought this home while pregnant with our little girl, who is now 9 years old.  It is here that our children took their first steps. This home became the go-to destination for both our nuclear and extended family gatherings.  The spacious dining and family room area, and open floor plan begged for entertaining. We began the tradition of hosting weekly Sunday night dinners for our large extended family and special friends, and grilled hundreds of meals on the sunny deck.  We hosted several large parties and barbecues, including a themed cocktail party for the home itself to celebrate it’s 100thbirthday!

The deck and backyard area add a lot of square footage to the overall experience and in sunny Oakland you can use it almost every day.  Because the deck is elevated, it also provides a great vantage point for both sunrise and sunset.

We used the parking area flexibly – sometimes for parking and sometimes as an extended play area with slide and trampoline for our kids and their friends.  Our downstairs neighbor used her area at times for parking and others for gardening. 

We chose 403 63rdStreet because it had recently been beautifully renovated and was move-in ready. We have attempted to leave this home in a similar condition for the new owner, and as such, made several improvements upon leaving.  We’ve updated most of the light fixtures, painted the interior, refinished the floors, and added new carpet to the upstairs. In the kitchen, we replaced the flooring and appliances, and added a tile backsplash above the counter. 

One thing that we loved about this home is being one floor up from the street.  The height provides significant view opportunities from the living room, dining room, and kitchen, and also provided a little distance from the goings-on at street level.

The expansive master suite provides a retreat from the living areas and lovely views of the eastern hills.  As early risers, we’ve enjoyed many beautiful sunrises while gazing out the large windows of the master bedroom. 

The neighborhood is truly amazing and full of the friendliest families with whom we will remain close. Beyond the friendliness of our neighbors is the easy access to stores, restaurants and services nearby. For the entire 10 years we lived at this home, we owned only 1 car. From morning coffee at Cole, to fine dining at Olive, or a quick run to Yasai to “big shopping” at Safeway; virtually every need can be met within a 5 to 15 minute walk. Colby Park and Frog Park are staples for families, as is the park at Alta Bates for the nanny set.  

Of course, being just about a block away from Peralta was also a tremendous selling point for us, and our daughter has loved each and every teacher she’s had thus far.  The Peralta families are warm and inviting, and it feels as though we’ve known so many of them for decades.
